Under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2009, the department is authorised by law to collect information from doctors and laboratories about diagnoses of certain health-related conditions in Victoria. The department sources this data through contact tracing and management of the COVID-19 outbreak. You should not use the maps to decide to travel or shop in an area that may appear to have lower cases level of COVID-19. The current cases maps don't necessarily reflect where the person caught COVID-19. While positive cases are notified on the same day, there can be a lag in providing some negative results, which causes the need for adjustment.Įvents are counted in the Victorian data set if the case is being managed in Victoria. That data is continuously cleaned and processed which includes the removal of duplication and allocating cases to the date of test, rather than the date of notification to the department. The daily media conference number represents results provided to the department in the previous 24 hour period to midnight. Analysis in this report is based on the date on which the event was first received by the department. It may change as more information becomes available. Interpreting dataĭata presented in this report is updated daily.

When a case occurs in a new postcode it is included in the postcodes download and identified under the relevant new postcode number. When a case requires review and confirmation it is included in the local government area data under the heading 'other' and the postcode 9999 is displayed in the postcode data.

Some cases may occur in new postcodes and so cannot be added to the map. We use 2016 ABS data for Australian postcodes and population statistics. Some postcode and local government information requires follow up and confirmation with a confirmed case and so is not added to the map until this process is completed by our Public Health team. Statewide case numbers are subject to change as cases are reviewed and reclassified.

A small number of cases that are not contactable are considered to have recovered after 28 days from diagnoses. Information about the dataĪ confirmed case is a person who has a positive laboratory test for COVID-19.Īn active case is someone who has tested positive and is currently in isolation.
